Belgian proto-punk and early heavy metal band from Mons, Blast was formed in 1970 by Toni Colonius (b. 1 January 1952) on guitar, Francis Flament on drums and Antoni Cucchiara (b. 9 November 1952) on bass and vocals. The two first met at l'École Technique de Hornu and had previously been in bands together: Sixty-Toes (1966–1969) and The Oaks (1969–1970). In 1971, they recruited Mick Jacobs to replace Flament (b. 13 February 1954) on drums. Blast performed live between 1971 and 1972 before recording and mixing their first single in two hours "Damned Flame" b/w "Hope", on the 29th of August 1972. The single was released in 1973 on Majestic Records, with no more than 500 copies pressed.
