127 vinyl pressings of Mingus Ah Um are listed here, from 16 countries, released between 1959 and 2026.

When was Mingus Ah Um first released on vinyl?

The earliest pressings are from 1959, in US, Australia, Canada. One of them is Columbia CS 8171, released September 14, 1959.

How do I tell if my copy of Mingus Ah Um is a first pressing?

Check the catalog number on the label (first-year pressings use CS 8171, CL 1370, KLLS 1658, KLL-1658) and the codes etched in the runout groove, then compare them with the pressings listed above; for example, XSM47458-1AA I and XSM47459-1B II.
