Coroner emerged from Zurich’s underground in 1983. They released a demo that year called Depth of Hell, but that didn’t do much. Several band members left. Drummer Marky Edelmann then put together the trio that was going to be the core of Coroner for the coming decade. Ron Broder (aka Ron Royce) on bass/vocals and Tommy Vetterli (aka Tommy T. Baron) on guitar. They recorded the infamous Death Cult demo with Celtic Frosts Tom G. Warrior on vocals. Shortly after that Vetterli and Edelmann joined Celtic Frost as their roadies on a US tour in the summer of 1986. After that experience Coroner was ready to record their debut R.I.P.
