American jazz and pop orchestra, recording between 1932 and 1968. The orchestra had its first success at the Bossert Hotel in Brooklyn, NY, where they played on the Marine Roof in 1931. Led by tenor saxophonist Freddy Martin, it was the first "Tenor Band", an orchestra with an all-tenor sax section, just two brasses, and a violin trio plus rhythm section; other bands soon copied the "Tenor Band" style. The orchestra made its first four recordings with Columbia in 1932. In October 1932, they switched to Brunswick, for which they recorded numerous titles until December 1937. In April 1933, they also recorded four sides for Okeh.
