Fuchsia were a orchestral progressive folk rock band from England. They were formed by Tony Durant at Exeter university in 1970. Durant met up with Mike Gregory, who was in the Albion Band later, plus Mick Day on bass and played as a 3 piece heavy rock band though incorporating theatre and poetry. Durant was listening to classical music and would go to concerts and hear Bartok, Bach, Beethoven, and Prokoviev. He decided to have two sets of music, one ‘heavier rock style’, then integrate strings for the second half. He advertised and found the girls, Janet Rogers, Madeleine Bland, Vanessa Hall-Smith, who supplied the strings. The band played and recorded an album in 1971.
