Joseph Hyman. Vaudeville and British music hall comedian (April 16, 1876 Philadelphia, PA - February 1, 1957 Hollywood, CA) who introduced the "Samuel Cohen" character. Originally working as the assistant of his older brother, Jacob Hyman, in a magic act, "The Brothers Houdini", Hyman later changed his name to Joe Hayman and performed Cohen sketches with his wife, Mil Franklin, as part of the comic duo "Hayman & Franklin". Hayman's comedy record "Mr. Cohen on the Telephone" became the first comedy record to sell a million copies.
