Highly influential, multi-award-winning Moravian folk brass band founded in late 1971 by trumpeter, composer, and arranger Jan Slabák. Based out of Brno, the ensemble was initially formed by 11 elite, classical musicians from the Brno State Philharmonic who injected modern jazz tempos and virtuosic orchestration into regional folk music. Dubbed the "Queen of Czech Brass Bands," they completely revitalized the dechovka genre, achieving massive international commercial success across Europe and selling over four million records. The band underwent a major internal fracturing in 1985, leading a faction of departing musicians to form the rival offshoot Brněnská Moravěnka.
