Paul Horn (born March 17, 1930, New York City, New York, USA - died June 29, 2014, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) was a Grammy Award winning American jazz flutist, alto saxophonist, clarinetist and composer. Classically trained and educated, Horn was an active member in the 1950`s west coast jazz scene, recording with Chico Hamilton, Shorty Rogers and Buddy Collette among others. In the late 1950`s and early 1960`s with his own group, he took up a more modal approach to playing, influenced by Miles Davis. In addition to a large discography of jazz recordings, Horn is considered one of the pioneers of new age music, in which the flute became his main instrument.
