Louis Eugene Walcott. American religious leader, and former calypso singer, born May 11, 1933, New York City. He has been the head of the Nation of Islam since 1978. Before converting to Islam, he recorded several calypso records as 'The Charmer', also playing as 'Calypso Gene'. The name given to him by Elijah Muhammad, 'Farrakhan', means 'Charmer' in Arabic.
