The Rainy Daze were a Denver, Colorado rock band formed in 1963 that became best known for their marijuana-themed single “That Acapulco Gold,” a major regional hit in the 1960s. Blending a working-band club ethic with a sound influenced more by the Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, and the Who than the Beatles, they built their identity on energetic covers while periodically cutting original material. Their single “That Acapulco Gold” was picked up by Uni Records, reached the Billboard pop charts, and stirred national controversy when programmers realized its drug references, which ultimately helped bring the band to an end.
